Known bug

For better performance, start your ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE graphic settings adjustments with Clouds, Shadows, Reflections, and Global Illumination on Low. Lower Effects if explosions still cause drops, then compare a lower output resolution with DLSS or FSR. If your question is “Optimization?”, these are the strongest starting points in the available player tests; a universal best preset is not confirmed yet.

Which settings should you lower first?

SettingStarting pointReported result or limitation
Clouds and ShadowsLowA 4080 SUPER player identified both as major performance costs.
Reflections and Global IlluminationLowIncluded in both the 4080 SUPER and RX 7900 GRE configurations that improved performance.
EffectsLower if heavy scenes still dipThe 4080 SUPER player reported drops to about 30 FPS without also lowering Effects.
Textures and Model QualityLeave these until after the settings aboveThe 4080 SUPER player reported virtually no performance impact from either; the RX 7900 GRE configuration retained Ultra textures.
Post-processingLow if chromatic aberration bothers youOne player reported less chromatic aberration; an FPS benefit is not confirmed yet.

These are starting settings, not a guaranteed 60 FPS fix. Heavy particle effects and explosions still caused drops in a configuration using Low clouds, reflections, and global illumination. A universal 20% gain from lowering clouds is not confirmed yet.

Use ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE graphic settings for the broader cloudscapes and display section.

Should you lower resolution or use upscaling?

Lower native resolution — recommended comparison first

One RX 7900 GRE and Ryzen 5 5500X3D player reported almost locked 60 FPS at native 1440p with Ultra settings, compared with drops at 4K using FSR Performance and Medium settings. This supports trying a lower output resolution; it does not establish that native rendering is always faster than upscaling.

DLSS — useful on some configurations

An RTX 3060, i3-12100F, and 32 GB RAM configuration reportedly reached about 70–90 FPS with mostly Medium settings, the rest Minimum, and DLSS Performance. Its output resolution was not given. That player found Ultra Performance visibly worse.

An RTX 2080 Super player reported generally near 60 FPS at 1440p Medium with DLSS Quality, never below 40 FPS. A 5090 laptop player reported barely 60 FPS and little apparent benefit from DLSS, so the improvement depends on the configuration.

FSR — compare against lower native output

An RX 7900 GRE configuration at 4K with FSR Performance, Low clouds/reflections/global illumination, Ultra textures, and Medium elsewhere reportedly approached locked 60 FPS. Bombardment and particle-heavy scenes still dropped into the low 30s. FSR did not eliminate those dips.

Can “Increase Your Shader Cache Size” help stutters?

It helped one RTX 2080 Super player with repeated shader compilation, first-explosion stutters, and a Mission 11 UE Error 0,1 crash. Another player reported success through Mission 12, while another reported no improvement. A general frame-rate increase is not confirmed yet.

Open NVIDIA Control Panel global settings

Find Shader Cache Size. The successful test began with Driver Managed.

Try 100 GB

The player changed Shader Cache Size to 100 GB, then launched the game. The first launch still crashed.

Launch again without another settings change

On the second launch, shader compilation reportedly took about five seconds instead of two to three minutes, the mission completed, and the initial explosion and hangar stutters disappeared.

Treat this as a symptom-specific test. The explanation that the cache was too small is a player hypothesis; the underlying cause is not confirmed yet. An Engine.ini workaround combined with increased virtual memory also has no isolated performance result and reportedly made some cutscenes look strange.

Keep performance tuning separate from control setup: use ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE mouse controls for mouse input, ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE flight controls for cockpit controls, and ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE HOTAS support for flight-stick setup.

Status as of October 7, 2026: Performance drops and stutters remain reported in the available material; settings and shader-cache changes have mixed results, and an official fix is not confirmed yet.
