Cloudscapes and DisplayPlayer-tested settings

This Cloudscapes and Display section helps you adjust ace combat 8 wings of theve graphic settings for performance drops, resolution trade-offs, and stutters. Start with Low Clouds, Shadows, Reflections, and Global Illumination, based on the available player tests. Compare lower output resolution with DLSS or FSR when choosing a display setup. Results vary by configuration, and a universal best preset is not confirmed.

Clouds and other performance costs

A 4080 SUPER player identified Clouds and Shadows as major performance costs. Low Reflections and Global Illumination also appeared in the 4080 SUPER and RX 7900 GRE configurations that improved performance. Lower Effects if explosions still cause drops: the 4080 SUPER player reported dips to about 30 FPS without also lowering Effects.

Textures and Model Quality had virtually no performance impact in the 4080 SUPER report, while the RX 7900 GRE configuration retained Ultra textures. One player reported less chromatic aberration with Low post-processing; an FPS benefit was not confirmed.

Resolution and upscaling comparisons

One RX 7900 GRE and Ryzen 5 5500X3D player reported almost locked 60 FPS at native 1440p Ultra, compared with drops at 4K using FSR Performance and Medium settings. This supports testing a lower output resolution, without establishing that native rendering is always faster.

DLSS results also varied. An RTX 2080 Super player reported generally near 60 FPS at 1440p Medium with DLSS Quality, never below 40 FPS. A 5090 laptop player reported barely 60 FPS and little apparent DLSS benefit.

Upscaling did not eliminate every dip. An RX 7900 GRE configuration using 4K FSR Performance and Low clouds, reflections, and global illumination still dropped into the low 30s during bombardment and particle-heavy scenes.

Shader-cache limits

Increasing NVIDIA Shader Cache Size to 100 GB helped one RTX 2080 Super player with repeated shader compilation, initial explosion stutters, and a Mission 11 crash. The first launch still crashed; the reported improvement came on the second launch without another settings change. Another player reported success through Mission 12, while another saw no improvement.

Treat this as a symptom-specific test. A general frame-rate increase and the underlying cause of those stutters are not confirmed.
